Greenhouse Heaters |
Greenhouse heaters and insulation form an important part of the greenhouse experience, enabling you to either over winter your plants in a frost free environment, or start sowing and propagation earlier than would be possible without a greenhouse heater.
So as not to waste the heat you will need to insulate the greenhouse with bubble insulation film forming a 'Double Glazing' effect.

The Brunswick
The Brunswick is a duplex brass burner with twin wicks and snuffers. The Brunswick is ideal for heating a 6' x 8' greenhouse with maximum heat output of 2100 BTU's/hr (625 watts approximately).
It is supplied in galvanised construction and an attractive dark green powder coated finish.

The Big Red Paraffin Heater
The Big Red heater is very powerful with an output of 2.5kw which is sufficient to heat a 12' x 10' greenhouse.
This sophisticated paraffin heater comes complete with fuel gauge and has a capacity of 4 litres which is approximately 16 hours of continuous burning. 12" diameter x 15" high (23" including the handle)

Frost Sheild Electric Heater
The electric frost shield greenhouse fan heater helps provide the right environment for seeding and propagation. It is suitable for a greenhouse or conservatory and is approved for use in damp greenhouse conditions. It is fully thermostataically controlled with a thermal overload safety control and an aautofroststat which is activated below 5 deg c. It can be mounted on the wall or carried by the integral handle. Frost-shield can also convert to a cold air ventilator for summer use and is available in 2 or 3 kw.

Bubble Insulation
Bubble plastic is an economical way of "double glazing" your greenhouse.
The starter kit consists of 100' x 28' x 2'4" (suitable for an 8' x 6' greenhouse) and is complete with uniquely designed snap caps for the insulation to be attached to the framework (caps are not sold separately).
It is UVI treated and guaranteed for 5 years against discoloration. Its installation will extend plant life and enable earlier propagation of plants.

 |
Fittings
These uniquely designed 'snap caps' are used to attach lining (e.g. bubble plastic, netting etc.)
The 'snap cap' is pushed through the lining material and then twisted and locked into position in the glazing bar. |

Q. What is the difference between Horticultural and Toughened glass?
A. Horticultural Glass:
Horticultural Glass is made by the Rolled Glass Process
The rolling process is used for the manufacture of horticultural glass.
The process is achieved by rolling a continuous stream of molten glass between water-cooled rollers.
When Horticultural glass breaks it splinters leaving sharp jaggered edges which must be handled with great care.
Toughened Glass:
Toughened glass is manufactured by subjecting final size panes of glass, to a heating and cooling treatment whereby high compressive stresses are set up at the surfaces with balancing tensile stresses in the centre.
The high compressive surface stresses give the toughened glass its increased strength.
Toughened glass can break under extreme loads or by severe impact with a sharp object, but breaks down into virtually harmless particles. |
Elite Glasshouse
The following glazing types are available with Elite glasshouses
Horticultural Glass
Available in 3mm thick with overlapping sheets.
Toughened Safety Glass
Glass In the event of a breakage, the glass granulates removing any danger of injury, Elite only use grade A toughened glass to British Standard 6206A which is primarily in full sheets providing a neater finish, especially with bar capping, and removes any overlapping glass where algae and moss can often be a problem.
Polycarbonate
UVI treated 6mm thick, twin wall with silvered edges and, like the toughened glass, it comes in full sheets and ia a great option where children and pets are concerned.
Remember, when handling any type of glass the utmost acre must be taken as it is extremely fragile when not in situ. It is also advised that safety gloves and goggles are worn.
